Mixing Metals is NOT mortifying
From what I've seen, the best way to mix and match is by integrating the metals into one outfit. Not just mixing in the different pieces you have on by staggering the metals. For example, matching a silver belt buckle with the silver hardware on your purse. But also incorporating both gold and silver bracelets, creating a balanced and intentional aesthetic. Look at @shop.with.caroline, she does it every day and looks incredible doing it.
Specifically, stacking necklaces and bracelets in different metals is top-tier. I’m currently creating my stack with unique pieces I’ve found, and I absolutely love it. And there is ALWAYS room for more.
I used to think mixing metals was never allowed. Growing up, when I would get ready for school, my first thought would be... silver or gold today? And it was truly a struggle. My favorite necklace was silver, and of course, my favorite staple ring was gold. So each day I would choose which metal I wanted to wear that day, always sacrificing my favorite staple pieces, JUST to match! Why? No idea.
Mixing metals is so cool, I would even say it is the epitome of chic. It not only shows that your sense of style is greater than those who shame mixing metals, but also that you just don't care about what the norm is. Fashion is about expression. It's about your own thought process on what looks good and what doesn't. In my opinion, fashion is all based on perception. It's about whether YOU think it looks good. And ultimately, if you wear it proudly, it can’t look horrible. When styling mixed metals, I believe there are a few dos and don'ts to create that cohesive look. For instance, mixing metals without truly integrating them.
What’s the Catch?
Never knowing when to stop adding to your stack
